Volusia County Jail
The Volusia County Jail, which is located in unincorporated Volusia County midway between Daytona Beach and DeLand, was constructed to address the growth needs of the inmate population of Volusia County. The County planned to expand the jail facilities in a “scalable” manner through the near and distant future. This is expected to be accomplished with the addition of new inmate housing building and renovations of the existing facility. As a result, the facility will net 459 additional beds.
Construction occurred in two separate phases: Phase I is proposed to add a 256 bed housing unit. Phase II is proposed to add another 256 bed housing unit and a special needs building (infirmary, medical, mental health) with 150 beds. In addition, temporary dorms at the Volusia County Correctional Facility were proposed to be decommissioned.
