Okeechobee County Sheriff's Department Jail
The current 69,756 SF Okeechobee County Jail, originally constructed in 1986, was in need of an extensive expansion and several renovations. There were two (2) brand new housing pods (Units B & C) that now provide an upgraded inmate capacity of 499 beds; 212 new beds per building and 75 as part of the renovation of the existing building for mental health, intake or segregation.
Other new additions included:
a central energy plant with two (2) 140 Ton Chiller Units, upgraded related underground utilities, switchgear and 1500 KW generator,
a 8,600 SF Kitchen /Laundry building Unit-D, with new service drive, loading dock, security fencing and secured entrance gates,
a 11,000 SF Vehicle Wash/Processing/Fitness Building Unit-A,
a corridor connector from Unit-C to Unit-D and Unit-D to Unit-B
new dumpster location, retention pond, all site utilities, site lighting, hardscapes, asphalt paving at new parking, and all final landscaping
To make room for these additions, demolition of the existing (32 Bed) Housing Pod Unit-B, (64 Bed) Housing Pod Unit-A, Wash Building Unit-A was required.
