FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Phase II Expansion
Ajax completed the second phase of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering on schedule. The 97,000 SF structure is situated adjacent to Innovation Park in Tallahassee, Florida.
To meet the Owner’s aggressive schedule, our team implemented a multi-phased scheduling approach. Ajax also reduced the project cost from an initial estimate of $12,621,271 to $11,824,113. This savings was produced while incorporating 100% of the Owner’s objectives.
The 3-story facility houses five Engineering Departments including Civil Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Chemical Engineering; and, Industrial Engineering, as well as administrative, teaching, research, common use, and support areas.
The facility included a strong floor designed with embeds spread throughout to allow a beam or column (or other item) to be tethered in place and then tested to failure, either by loading or hydraulic pressure. The floor has a tremendous amount of reinforcing steel, special concrete mix designs and very strict tolerances. Each embed is designed to resist pullout to stresses in the 2-4 ton (kips) range.
